Collection: Le Serail Marseille Soaps

“Savon de Marseille”, the French soap manufacture is thought to have started around 1230 in a small workshop in Marseille, south of France. Le Serail is one of the few traditional Marseille soap manufacturers still practicing authentic soap making processes in Marseille, France.

The soap is all natural, 100% biodegradable and perfect for face, skin and clothing. Each block must contain 72 % of oil, a percentage which is stamped on every block of soap.

Occasionally a white film is seen on the external surface of Le Serail Marseille soap, this is called "le masque", the mask, it is a sign of purity and authenticity.

The natural reaction of the salt contained in the soap with the outside air when the soap dries cause the mask to come through and gives the soap its aged and antique look.  The mask will disappear once it comes into contact with water on first use.
